So I'm continuing to work on my platformer project. I figured I should talk about the ways in which I have been changing and finetuning the code. Here's a few points about the project:
I customized the platforming and jumping and made it a little more fast paced and ninja-like. It's for my concept idea I've been thinking about so I'm experimenting with the the different variables. Also, I used the bullet behavior to make a custom death animation.
I also experimented with the particle effects for the block break code. I changed up the physics variables and added a flash effect.
There was a tweak that needed to be made to the base code for the Stage clear effects and animation to work but my teacher helped me fix it.
Everything else is basically that way it is meant to be for now.
I'm gonna keep working on this. I have an idea for the premise of my game that's very cyberpunk with some choice mechanics that change up the game as you play. There will be more to show about this as over the next few weeks. Have a great weekend.
Extra Blogs:
I started looking into 3D design. I kept threatening to look into Unreal Engine but I decided to start from the beginning and look at the blender videos that are linked to in the Student Module just so I don't get overwhelmed. The beginners guide by Grant abbitt that Gamegen found looks like it could be useful.
I wanted to do some research for my platformer as well. I remember playing a flash game where it was super Mario bros but you could play through the stages as other Nintendo characters (I mainly remember because I saw a picture of the character select screen in the Art Module of the Platformer lesson.) I found a similar flash game called Super Mario Bros. Crossover-I say similar because the menus are different and you can choose different versions of each character from different games but it may have bee made by the same person. A video let's play I found about it links to a webpage where you can download Flashpoint, a project dedicated to preserving old flash games. I think I might play it myself to make my own comparisons. Super Mario Bros is the prototypical platformer so it would be interesting to see how each characters mechanics reacts to the prototypical level design of this game.
