More Unreal Engine stuff

I'm back with more Unreal stuff. I've watch all the intro videos and my pallet has been filled. I made a proper landscape with some more natural shapes as well as filling them in with the Material panting tools for this sort of design. Here's some snaps for what I made:

I also experimented again with the shapes and made this checker board indent with some moss on it.

Here's a close look at the foliage that was added as well:

I placed some small foliage in a wider area. There's a bigger concentration of small plants near the river banks because there's suppose to be water there.

I will see how I can add some water in the future. The last two things were Decals and Vertex painting. Decals are pre-made designs that you can place in the level meshing for some extra flare and/or realism. I found some free designs and put them on some geometry:

Vertex painting allows you put different pieces of material onto a static mesh by merging different textures together and using a vertex color filter to treat them as different paint colors:

I personally included the normal's for each material. This can made it simpler to put wearing into a piece of architecture in your layout to evoke a more lived-in vibe.

I'm really getting the hang of this. These videos really helped me understand the system and I feel more confident to move on to UE5 if I ever need to. I should probably get back to my platformer though. I think I'm just gonna put a demo together and post it to my Itch.io. Some day I'll flesh it out a bit more.
