Hey y'all, I'm still in a bit of a recuperation period from some of my COVID symptoms so I decided to switch gears for a second. My teacher gave me access to the Into to Unreal videos that one of the instructors put together for Gamegen so I figured I would come back to them for a bit. It's been really cool to experiment with UE4's features along side an easy video tutorial series. The ones on Epic's website for UE5 seem a bit advanced. i was able to learn a lot about the tools available to me and how to navigate the editor and virtual space I'm working with. When I got to the geometry lessons I was able to really get a feel for how to create in Unreal's Virtual space. I made a neat house designs with some block meshes and a few material textures from the Starter Content folder.

I also learned how realistic materials are constructed from Normal's, and Roughness textures as well as color portraits to make the material look more 3-dimentional. these are the basic textures for a brick look.

Color Portrait

Roughness Portrait

Ambient Occlusion Portrait

"Normal" Texture Portrait
I also got to learn about skeletal meshes and how each of the different parts work. i found a human body mesh form a file called Assetville Town which is either free or was free for the month when I got it. I was able to make him have a intrigued face because you can move the facial feature on him as well as the joints.

The last things I have gotten to is landscaping and lighting. This one was really exciting because it get's more into the layout designs you can make. I was experimenting with it and created this by using the mirror tool a couple times after I had made a few hills in the plain.

Lastly here's a lighting set-up i put together while watching that tutorial.

I'm also working on a proper landscape. I'll let know know here when it's done. Have a night day.
